Benthic Habitat Mapping

Benthic Habitat Mapping projects supported by the Center focus on characterizing the physical and biological features of estuarine and nearshore benthic habitats. Results of these projects include GIS data to assist local resource managers in managing benthic resources, infaunal communities, and sediments.

The NOAA Coastal Services Center also provides information resources designed to educate and build capacity at the state and local level. These resources are focused on current benthic mapping technologies, benthic habitat classification, and data management practices. These activities are jointly led by Ecological Applications and the Coastal Remote Sensing Program.
